What to Expect

About Your Doula

As your birth doula, it’s my job to keep you focused, feel empowered, and be relaxed during your labor. I will offer comfort measures, coping techniques, and be a continued presence helping you achieve a satisfying birth experience. It is important for me to build a relationship with you and your partner prenatally to ensure the best possible connection so I can best assist you through your birth journey. I will provide comfort and prospective as I talk you through concerns that arise. As your doula, I work for you directly and not for your caregiver or hospital. My purpose as your doula is to be completely present and support you physically, emotionally, and provide relevant information you will need to make the best-informed choices.

Before Labor

After our initial meeting/ phone conversation, I will meet with you and your partner for a prenatal appointment about two months before your due date (32 weeks along). This gives us a chance to get to know each other and allow me to get a feel for the type of birth you are hoping to achieve. If there are any additional friends or family that will be a part of your birthing experience they are strongly encouraged to come to the second prenatal visit where we go into detail about labor signs, preparation, the birth itself, and practice comfort measures.

When You Are In Labor

Once you have any signs you may be in labor, I will be in constant communications with you. When it appears you are established in labor I will then arrive at our designated meeting place where I will remain with you throughout your labor and birth. I will be there to support you and your partner as we work together to create a safe and calm environment to encourage a joy-filled experience.

After the Birth

I will remain with you for 1-2 hours after your birth to ensure that you are clean, comfortable, and settled. I will assist you with initial breastfeeding and answer any questions you may have. We will then schedule your postpartum visit for approximately two weeks after the birth. At this visit I will check in to see how you and your family are adjusting and to talk about your birth. I will also providing any additional resources you should need.
